Sharing ideas for funding

Hello All,

Today, I was asked: "Do you have to send a postcard to everyone in the particular category? It seems to be something I would really like to do with my fourth grade students but seems to cost a lot. I am looking for any suggestions about the project and how to approach it."

The project's success depends on the follow through of all participants. You really must send cards to each participant on your list if we don't want to disappoint a lot of teachers and student.

In the past, participants have shared some inventive funding ideas for the expenses of this project. Some teachers have each student bring in a few stamps, while others have looked to PTA/PTO for support, to small grants, and to sponsorship by local philanthropic organizations (Rotary, etc.).

Please share your funding ideas, folks!

Best,

Leni

I am a first time participant and am hoping to get MANy more snail-mail cards than email cards. I am going to ask each of my students to bring in 4 postcard stamps. We are doing this as a grade level, so eacy 3rd grader is doing the same. We have over 90 third graders, so that will be 360 stamps...and there are only 274 particpants on our list as of now.

My concern (and it's a rather big one) is that I cannot find a postcard of OUR CITY! I can find CALIFORNIA postcards, but they show the beach, or Hollywood, which is nowhere near where we are in Fullerton. I'm worried the cost for manufacturing our own cards or buying some sort of specialty card will force us to do something drastic, like drop out or send only email cards (which we DO NOT want to do). Any suggestions???

Our local visitor center found it interesting that we were looking for postcards of our city and gave us a great deal on the cards. The other thing he told us was to check with some of the local tourist attractions and see if they had some that they would like to donate to us. That's our next step.
